Handling Spiders

Lavender Spider Mum When I used to think of Spider Mums, I always used to think of my Mom’s 1961 wedding bouquet. It looked pretty, but sort of “dated”, and caused me to never once use Spider Mums in any flower arrangements! While I was walking recently through the floral department at my local grocery store, a fantastic bouquet stopped me dead in my tracks. It had lavender spider mums mixed with other flowers in different shades of purple. They looked fantastic! Was this “retro” appeal or just a new appreciation for an old flower? The very next arrangement I made consisted of Lavender Spider Mums (correctly called Anastasia Mums), Blue Curiosa Roses, mini pink Calla Lilies, green Hypericum berries, pink Wax Flowers and lemon leaf. The Spider Mums added beautiful color and interesting texture to the other more commonly used flowers. The result was wonderful. It wasn’t a “retro” look at all, but I think I’ll try that next!
